 Learning How to Identify the point of view and more than one person

1. Video  .  This first video lesson is on how to identify the point of view of a passage.  Going into 6th grade students know there is first and third person, however they're not as familiar with the difference between third limited and third omniscient. We always start with a general in class review. This video would allow them to go back and review POV any time during the school year.
 
Reading and Comprehension for all Grades

 

 2. Video  PART 1: The second lesson is an actual lesson on how to find the point of view but this time we are looking at passages that include dialogue. This can be very confusing for students as multiple pronouns from first and third person are often used in the same passage. This video will allow them to go back and review how to figure out the POV with dialogue.

This lesson is crcial for students as they learn to gather relevant information from multiple digital sources.  it is important that students avoid plagiarism and the best way to avoid this is bypracticing citations.  EasyBib.com is a fantastic website that quickly assists students in providing basic bibliographic information for sources.

This lesson is a follow-up to the How to Use EasyBib lesson, as it teaches students how to use EasyBib in conjunction with NewsELA. Students will be using NewsELA as a reference throughout the school year, and their HCSD career.  The sooner they learn the citations basics using both sites, the wasier their work will become!  newsela.com

 

 3.Video  PART 2: The third video is a follow up to finding the POV with dialogue. This second part is giving the students a chance to practice on their own. This is a little over 5 minutes because we are giving them some time to write down their answer (along with the opportunity to pause if they need more time).
Email Practice  Video

Email is a fast, reliable mode of communication that will be around for the foreseeable future.  In this lesson students will learn how to format emails.  This is important for students to learn to they can clearly convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.

 
4.. Video This last video on conclusions will be very helpful when we are writing our literary essays during the 21-22 school year. I find that the conclusion paragraph is often easy for students, but they tend to rush through it leaving a lot empty. It also drives me CRAZY when they write endings such as, "I hope you liked my essay." We talk a lot about how informal and elementary this is. This conclusion video will be a good recap of what they will need to include in their conclusion. I did use these slides this past year with students but I like how the video allows me to explain more.
Plot Review Practice  Video

Plot is one of the five major Elements of Literature that we use throughout the school year.  Students have learned about plot during their 5th grade year, but will be covering it in greater depth over the course of their middle school 6 - 8 grade.  This is important for students to learn in order to successfully describe how a particular story's or drama's plot unforlds in a series of episodes as well as how character's) respond or change as a plot moves toward a resolution.
